Children Who Stammer

Stammering is a natural variation in speech that often starts between the ages of 2 and 5 years.  Sometimes the onset of stammering is gradual and for others it may feel sudden but either way it can be worrying for a parent. Some children repeat sounds or words whilst others may stretch out sounds or just get completely stuck for a moment.  It maybe that your child has commented on their words e.g. 'I can't say it' or 'my words won't come out'.  Older children may be able to tell you about moments that are more challenging for them to talk in, such as answering questions or the register.

No matter the age of your child I can help you to understand more about stammering, its causes and how to help. Parents are an important part of the assessment and therapy process ensuring that each young person does not feel alone in their journey.  â€‹

I offer compassionate, evidence-based support that honours each individual's voice and builds confidence in their communication.
